The local community in Oldfield Park needs your help, could you spare a few hours to volunteer for their local library?

This spring, the council-run Moorland Road Library will close its doors only to reopen as Moorland Road Community Library (MRCL), a volunteer-led community hub.

MRCL will offer full access to Libraries West services, including book reservations, and will be staffed by fully-trained volunteers. January is recruitment month for library volunteers so MRCL want to hear from you if you can spare a few hours and would like to be part of this exciting initiative.

Victoria Johnson, Volunteer Coordinator, told us “we appreciate that everyone has very busy lives, so we are incredibly grateful for everyone who volunteers.

We have a range of roles that we are looking to fill. Our Library Assistants will be there to welcome visitors and help them to borrow and return books and use other library services. We need people to help us run activity sessions such as children’s storytime, book clubs and science or technology sessions. We are also on the lookout for volunteers with previous management or senior volunteer experience to help us to oversee our amazing team of volunteers. Our Volunteer Team Leaders will provide the daily support to our fantastic team of librarians.

But that’s not all. We’re also putting a call out for people who could spare some time to help us with buildings and facilities management, marketing and social media guidance and contracts management support. We want MRCL to be a true community venture so no matter your background, skills set or the time you have available, if you’re passionate about wanting to help us preserve this valuable resource then please do get in touch.”

Anyone interested in getting involved should email Victoria Johnson (Volunteer Coordinator) at moorlandroadcommunitylibrary@gmail.com for the  by 31 January 2019 for more information and follow them on twitter and facebook or check out their website.
