Hannah the Runner
Where are you based and what do you do?
We’re a running coaching business. We offer courses and drop-in sessions for all abilities, and a friendly, inclusive community to support our runners. We meet mainly meet in Victoria Park, but we’re expanding to cover different areas of Bath as the company grows.
What inspired you to start your business?
It was all a bit accidental. When I started it was just supposed to be me doing some coaching to fill the time I had when my twins started school, but demand outstripped supply and we now have eight coaches.
What do you love about running a business in Bath?
Bath is like a big village. Everyone knows everyone so word of mouth goes a really long way. That’s been incredibly helpful in getting established without spending a fortune on marketing. I love the random connections you make and how they can be mutually beneficial. Our lovely logo was designed by the cousin of one of our NCT gang, for example (anniewallis.com – check her out if you need awesome graphic design!).
You’ve got five minutes to grab a sandwich, where do you go?
I’d dash into Mokoko for a flat white and the best cinnamon bun in Bath!
Where’s your favourite place to book for a business lunch?
My meetings tend to be one-to-one and very informal so I head to Beyond the Kale where they have delicious, healthy food.
Which bar do you head to after a tough day?
My ideal evening out after a tough day is to get a few good friends together for cocktails in the garden at Circo.
Tell us about another Bath business you love and why?
I’m a huge fan of Yogadoo. Firstly, the actual classes are great, but from a business point of view I love the way that Lucy has built a strong brand that communicates her vision of simple, accessible yoga that really is for anyone.
What advice would you give to someone starting a business in the city?
Bath is a brilliant place to start a business. There’s fantastic, free startup advice available from Cool Ventures – seminars and one-to-one sessions. Make the most of that! The Bath Business Expo is a great place to network and swap ideas. Take a minute to talk to everyone. You never know what connections you’ll make. They might not be immediately relevant, but who knows what will happen further down the line.
