Where are you based and what do you do?
I’m an illustrator based in the gorgeous city of Bath, and I primarily work from home, although I am prone to seeking a good cup of coffee and setting up base in a café.
What inspired you to start your business?
I was actually inspired to pick up the old pen and pencils again when I started my day job in a toy shop, the children’s books there are such a inspiration, my favourite being ‘Oliver Jeffers’. His work appeals to children and grown ups and I love that cheeky humour in all his children’s books.
What do you love about running a business in Bath?
I am surrounded by constant stimulation, the city itself is steeped in a rich history, the buildings here are just the cutest which help cook up all sorts of ideas! Not to mention the brilliant network of fantastic people and businesses here too!
You’ve got five minutes to grab a sandwich, where do you go?
In those rare moments I am able it has to be Darcy’s Café on Gay Street (although I am more likely to grab one of their scotch eggs!)
Where’s your favourite place to book for a business lunch?
I really love to go to Tapas Revolution, not an indie I KNOW I KNOW! (slap on the wrist) but the atmosphere is fantastic! The guys there are super friendly and the food is simply amazing! Not to mention the beautiful original mural by the bar (which is the only hand painted traditional tile mural in the UK)
Which bar do you head to after a tough day?
This is a easy one, It totally has to be CIRCO on George St, The cocktails here are amazing! The staff are always friendly and having a good time which always puts me in a great mood and there’s even a space for a good old boogie!
Tell us about another Bath business you love and why?
I absolutely love Taste of Bath, I mean what a fantastic idea to share the amazing produce and products from our local suppliers, being able to share these far and wide is just totally epic!
What advice would you give to someone starting a business in the city?
Be bold be brave and don’t be afraid to ask for help, all of us indies no matter how long we have been at it are in the same boat. It can seem really daunting at first when you’re just starting out but there’s such a brilliant support network in this city make the most of it. We all have the same interest at heart.
