One of our local community members Liz has started a climate emergency petition to Bath and North East Somerset Council essentially asking BANES to declare a climate emergency and commit to being carbon neutral by 2030.
“Failure to act ASAP means a dire outlook for our planet and the Government’s target of an 80% reduction by 2050 is simply not good enough. Several councils have already committed to be carbon neutral and it is spreading to more places all the time.
And to get there, BaNES will need to look primarily at transport (electric buses, more electric car charging points, better public transport etc), housing (better insulation), energy (renewables), agriculture etc.
The council will decide in March and we need to get 1,500 signatures for this to carry any weight.”
