This week we take a look at one Business in Bath that has been rewarding young people with recognition, Kids of Bath asks Bex Fox of St John’s Foundation about the now postponed Young Stars Awards

Where are you based and what do you do? I’m based in Bath and work for local charity, St John’s
Foundation. I am the Events and Marketing Manager at St John’s and the Young Stars Awards is a great
event that we’ve got behind in recognition of some of the courageous and selfless young people from
Bath and North East Somerset.

What inspired you to start your business? The Young Stars Awards was set up by Bathonians, Tim and
Toni Warren. Following last year’s success and the humbling and inspiring stories shared, Tim and Toni
were keen that this should become an annual event and approached St John’s to help them deliver the
best one yet! We are incredibly proud to be hosting the Awards and can’t wait to give our
Young Stars a night they’ll never forget!

What do you love about running a business in Bath? Our charity has been in Bath for over 846 years,
and every day we are inspired by how supportive the local community is. I think most organisations in
Bath would agree that if ever you need help, there are always people willing to lend a hand. You only
have to put a ‘shout out’ on twitter to see how quickly everyone rallies round. It’s a very special place to
be.

You’ve got five minutes to grab a sandwich, where do you go? We’re based just off Kingsmead Square, and rather spoilt for choice when it comes to lunchtime options….not to mention pudding (oh Swoon!). But it’s got to be a tie between a deliciously fresh pakora wrap from Phat Yaks and a flavorful onion bhaji wrap from Chai Wallah!  (Who BTW are doing deliveries during the Covoid period).

Where’s your favourite place to book for a business lunch or a meal/drink after a tough day? The
Walcot at Walcot House – I love the different spaces and locally-sourced menu. Whether I need a quiet
corner for a lunch meeting or a bit of a buzz for a post work drink, it’s the Walcot for me..

Tell us about another Bath business you love and why? Well, that’s easy – Soph and Libbs at Kids of
Bath of course! The fun and energy you have brought to the family scene in Bath is fabulous. I LOVE
your electric social media and how work in partnership with so many other brilliant Bath businesses. St
John’s is delighted to be teaming up with you for Young Stars, so thank you once again for your support.

What advice would you give to someone starting a business in the city? Get involved in Bath’s brilliant networking scene! I love Bath Life Magazine, The Bath Magazine, Circus Journal, Bath Echo, and BA1 Radio for what’s on and the Bath twitter sphere is a great place to find out about the best business
events in our city. St John’s also hosts regular networking breakfasts, so if you’re a morning person and
looking to connect with people in Bath’s corporate and/or charity sector, then do email us at
communications@stjohnsbath.org.uk and we’ll pop you on our mailing list!
