A Q&A with a gorgeous children’s clothing business that some of you might recognise from our Bath Carnival party at Komedia back in May!
Business name: Little Acorn Makes
Your name: Millie
Where are you based and what do you do? I am based just outside Bath and I run a children’s clothing brand. All our clothes are handmade by me from lovely soft jersey, making them perfect for your little explorer keeping them comfy and stylish.
What inspired you to start your business? Being a mum of three boys I always found it hard to find clothes I loved. When my third boy came along I’d had enough of shopping in the same shops with such a small choice, so I decided to start making him clothes myself. We started off with leggings then moved on to rompers (dungarees). After receiving lots of compliments from friends and family, one Friday morning I just decided to just take the plunge and set up an Instagram account and the rest you could say is history! Social media is an incredible thing isn’t it? My first sale (non friend/family) was made shortly afterwards and sent off to Wales to someone I didn’t know, but who has since become a long lasting customer.
What do you love about running a business in Bath? The sewing for sure! I find it quite therapeutic (when its all going right), and I also love experimenting with different fabrics and combining them to create something a bit different.
You’ve got five minutes to grab a sandwich, where do you go? Five minutes? More like two! I normally have at least one child with me so I head somewhere I know I can a. Get the buggy in to and b. Grab a hot chocolate as it kills two birds with one stone, sugar fix and surprisingly filling (liquid lunch is totally normal with a toddler right?)
Where’s your favourite place to book for a business lunch or a meal/drink after a tough day? Don’t get much time/chance for a business lunch between the juggling act of kids and sewing, but I love a pizza and Franco Manca in the arches by the station offers gorgeous pizzas at fab prices!
Tell us about another Bath business you love and why? SuperPirates are amazing. My eldest son has been to some of their holiday clubs and still talks about them and we’ve attended a few of their events in town where the staff are always enthusiastic and full of energy!
What advice would you give to someone starting a business in the city? Just do it! You only live once! Live life to the full with as few regrets as possible!
Yey, thank you so much Millie! We love your clothes & your ethos so much!
