This week the lovely Isa Richter who runs Young Explorers Preschool in Swainswick tells us all about the school and what she loves about the businesses in Bath! Read on to be inspired…

Where are you based and what do you do?

I’m based in Upper Swainswick and I run an outdoor preschool, catering for children aged 3-4.  We run Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning, 9am – 1pm using the beautiful garden at Swainswick Explorers as our base and the gardens of other village residents, woods and the local Swainswick school for outings.  We aim to give children different experiences, helping them to develop, learn and play in their last year before school.

What inspired you to start your business?

Having worked with children for a long time, I was given the opportunity to run a preschool which is completely outdoors.

What do you love about running a business in Bath?

Bath is a very creative and artistic place.  I get inspiration from the shops and galleries, for example looking at their displays.  I love to recycle and upcycle…. so watch your skips everybody!!

I’d lived in Bath for quite a while now and because it is a small place you always bump into someone and can have a chat.

You’ve got five minutes to grab a sandwich, where do you go?

The Green Rocket, near the Leisure Centre, they have, otherwise I upcycle and recycle what’s in my fridge.

Where’s your favourite place to book for a business lunch or a meal/drink after a tough day?

I like Acorn a Vegetarian restaurant in the centre of Bath and Nourish, a vegan restaurant on London Road.

Tell us about another Bath business you love and why?

There is a nice project in Swainswick ‘One Woman Awake’ ’ supporting young girls in a beautiful yurt, giving them a chance reflect on becoming young women.  Another great business is Women’s Aid on Walcot Street – a charity shop for a good cause, supporting women in the Bath area.

What advice would you give to someone starting a business in the city?

Don’t be shy asking for help! Speak to friends or family who might run a business and get as much advise as possible. That is your start building up a good support network.

Great advice Isa! Thank you so much for your pearls of wisdom! If you would like to find out more about the Young Explorers Preschool then head here.

Plus they have 5 places left for preschool in Sept 2019, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  Please get in touch if you are interested,
